Overview

The Ring was an interactive real-time installation created for Weltmeister (WM Motor) at the Shanghai Auto Show. Designed as a multi-screen immersive experience, the exhibit surrounded visitors with synchronized visuals across 12 displays powered by 4 networked computers, showcasing the brand’s electric vehicle technology in a futuristic and engaging way.

My Role

As Real-Time Visualization Lead at Mackevision, I was responsible for defining the overall visual direction and ensuring the real-time system functioned seamlessly across all screens. I supervised the artistic and technical implementation, balancing performance, aesthetics, and synchronization to achieve a unified experience.

Visual Direction

I defined the project’s visual language, combining geometry-based transition effects, x-ray visualizations, and material animations to express the precision and innovation behind Weltmeister’s vehicles. These effects were designed to highlight the car’s inner structure and transform smoothly between different design stages in real time.

Technical Implementation

To achieve perfect synchronization across the 12 screens, I utilized Unreal Engine’s nDisplay system, configuring a distributed rendering setup spanning four synchronized computers. This allowed for pixel-accurate playback and unified control of all visual nodes. I also implemented a custom communication layer for timecode management and scene transitions to ensure all machines remained in sync.

Interaction & Data Systems

Beyond the visuals, I implemented the UI layer and a user data tracking system that recorded visitor interactions and preferences during the exhibition. The system enabled real-time feedback and post-event analytics, allowing the brand to evaluate engagement and optimize future experiences.

Outcome & Impact

The installation became one of the highlights of the Shanghai Auto Show, drawing significant attention for its scale and seamless real-time integration. The Ring demonstrated how cinematic quality, interactivity, and real-time technology can merge into a powerful brand experience, positioning Weltmeister as a forward-thinking electric mobility company and Mackevision as a leader in immersive 3D visualization.
